Strange Circle....

I was just gonna post some of the stuff I'm working on right now in this entry, but then I came across an unusual discovery... You may remember a while back when I made the Bathroom Wall Blog Project, and posted the link here... So I was reading over Universal Hub today and they linked to this blog, called "Finding Machine", where the author, Erica, posts photos and descriptions of crap she ferrets off of the streets of Boston...

In the thread referenced on Universal Hub, she's talking about this binder a contributor has found in the trash in Jamaica Plain, including writings and doodles and whatnot by some girl called "Rachel Himmelman." The name immediately clicks in my brain as I recall it from the many days I spent scanning the bathroom stalls at the SMFA for the Blog Project. For some reason, Rachel's name was up there a lot, in various contexts, though frequently in the voicing of lesbian fantasies by anonymous wall-bloggers... However, I don't actually know this person beyond her writings. Or others' writings about her. Anyway, I look over the photos Erica has posted of the pages in Rachel's binder; her scribblings about zits and skanks and sad poetry from age 12, and her handwriting looks exactly the same as in her bathroom-wall messages. Now, this is Boston, so she's likely not the only Rachel Himmelman in town...

But scanning the page I discover a photo of her, that Rachel has taken herself, and I know her! I mean I've seen her around school many times, am used to the site of her face, though I never knew her name. Weird that the photo is of her as she is now, though it could have been taken years ago, when the binder seems to be her 12-year-old diary... And guess where she's standing in the photo? In front of a stall in the girls bathroom at the frigging SMFA! Weird, cyclical things... This town is smaller than it seems....

Sidenote: I love it when I listen to a song I'd previously dismissed and discover that it is, in fact, awesome. Yay.

Anyway, the lobster shell/fin/claw series I'm working on is taking FOREVER... I'll be glad when this necklace is finished...

Shit, no wonder my bandwidth usage completely skyrocketed.
Thanks for inadvertantly telling me about this link, I guess.

yeah, I was surprised to find a link to my journal on Universal Hub as well... Not quite sure how that happened.. On the upside though, now your site's kind of famous... Enjoy it!
